Session Information: “In my session, we will define what our mothers’ garden means to each of us. I will share my own mother’s struggles to nurture her garden and raise her children due to her poor choices. For Black women, we are often expected to carry the burdens of others, and I could no longer carry the burden (and shame) of the legacy my mother left for me, as the daughter of a formerly incarcerated woman. How does her legacy impact my own? What does society say about me, because of her choices?”
